MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - ABC 24's Joy Lambert confronted the woman who calls herself a "Moorish National". For the past week she's been squatting in a swanky east Memphis home.
Tabitha Gentry, who also goes by Abka Re Bey, pulled up to the sprawling $3 million estate just before 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 7. As she got out of a white Jaguar to unchain the front gate, Gentry nonchalantly stated she and her entire family have no plans to vacate.
After she told our news crew to get off her property, we asked what she planned to do if the police came to force her out. She simply replied, "I'll deal with them."
In paperwork filed with Shelby County on February 25, Gentry claims to own the private property, writing that she is seizing the land on 600-block of South Shady Grove Road "in the name of Allah, the Most High, Creator of the Heavens and Earth."
Although there are children in the home, a spokesperson with the Department of Child Services said they won't investigate unless a report is filed with DCS.
Memphis police say the situation is under investigation, and the District Attorney won't do anything until police do.
The bank, which owns the property, gave Gentry 24 hours to get out of the mansion; that was two days ago. To get Gentry out, the owner will likely have to get an eviction warrant from a civil court judge.
