It is unfortunate that over 750,000 people are on the Registry nationwide, and that it is a tool which is too broad and blunt to be useful anymore, despite what its proponents may say. It is fortunate that an "innocent" person was erroneously subjected to the consequences which these registrants and their families endure daily. Perhaps now society can take a closer and more impartial look at the damage, direct and collateral, caused by laws which are passed in haste and based on faulty recidivism statistics and the illusion of safety. See: Corrections magazine, "If It Saves One Child" for further info. "There is no actual evidence that the registry has saved even one child; however, we do know that many, many thousands have had their lives made a living hell because of it. These are the children of those on the registry, some of whom committed violent crimes, but many, even most, who did not. All on the registry, with their families, are subject to the whims of local and state restrictions including, but by no means limited to, severe restrictions on where they may live; denial of access to libraries, parks and beaches with their children; and restrictions barring the registered parent from often even being within a 1000 feet of the school his child attends. Very recently a woman took the picture of a registrant that she printed from the Internet to the school where the registrant’s five-year-old son was a kindergarten student; she showed it around, warning children about this man. His little boy stood and cried. The registry doesn’t differentiate. It doesn’t make it clear to people who threaten, harass, and do physical violence to registrants, their property, and their families whether daddy raped someone or whether he had sex with mommy before they were married when she was a year too young or whether he looked at an illegal image on a computer or whether he was innocent and falsely accused."

I winder how she feels now that the shoe is on the other foot? I love the way the MPD states kids are safer because of the license plate reader. A pedophile can walk to the park - duh! Not only that but everyone on the registry is not a pedophile or a threat to kids. Due to these laws RSO's who have children can not take them to play in a park. After all, RSO's children are not entitled to humane treatment - didn't you know? Keeping them away from public parks is surely going to save millions of other children. Right? Let's hope those other children don't go to the park with an uncle, father, grandfather, or close family friend who has never been caught or reported because they are in far more danger than they are in from a father who made a mistake when he was 18 who wants to take his kids to swing in the park. That license plate reader sure helped those kids didn't it?

Might as well give credit where credit is due??shall we? CANON CITY — A convicted sex offender is back behind bars, this time for alleged sexual encounters with developmentally disabled victims. "These guys are real peices of work" Or they just "over-prosecuted"??? The Augusta Chronicle By Kyle Martin Of the 84 people given first offender status for sex crimes in the past 11 years in Richmond County, one-third committed new crimes before their probation expired, (wonder how many victims that counts for)?? OH dont tell me, its societies fault!!! Shreveport Times Horton is accused of having sexual relations with a girl, to whom he is not biologically related, before she turned 12 in July. She is five months pregnant. Horton, a registered sex offender, was arrested in Bowie County

Jeez the sex offenders and their advocates flocked to this article with their BS stats and "sex offenders just got a raw deal" droning..umm what do we have today? What do you guys have a two for one offense thing going? 1)CARMEL, NY- A convicted sex offender from Jefferson Valley was charged with sexual molestation after luring boys from the Internet, 2)A Burke County man on the sex offender registry has been accused of having sex with a child. Anthony “Tony” Maurice Robinson, 39, 3)A registered sex offender from Bridgewater is behind bars again after allegedly exposing himself to a woman in Stoughton. 4) MARION, SC — A 29-year-old former football coach at Mullins High School will have to register as a sex offender the rest of his life after pleading guilty to showing pictures of his genitals to two teen girls. ""thats not even half of the crimes for one lousy day" Yea you guys have a real Low-offend rate??Right, sure..

Bad info, Mike; look up a few things before you continue to embarrass yourself by saying things that virtually everyone by now knows is not true. Registrants across the board have the lowest recidivism rate of all offenses except for murderers. And often the "crime" was sleeping with a younger girlfriend after turning 18. And many are on the registry retroactively; they had misdemeanors, did their punishment, life was good, and then along came laws that put them on the registry years after the fact. So the don't-do-the-crime thing isn't applicable there. And finally, 95% of sexual crime is committed by people not on the registry, so the chance is not what you seem to think it is. Yep, a little research will clear all of this up for you. Have a good day.

If you cant do the time, don't do the crime. Sex offenders have a very high recidivism rate, too high to take a chance.

Now the shoe is on the other foot. How does it feel to be singled out? This is what every single person on the registry goes through every single day. Perhaps you can use this as a learning experience. Do your research. Learn that sex offenders have one of the lowest recidivism rates. Look up Dr. Jill Levenson and read her reports. The registry does more harm than good. People like John Walsh, who's son was NOT murdered by someone on the registry need to get a clue. Not everything is black and white. Again, I challenge you to use this as a learning experience. Do your research, GOOD research. I think you'll be surprised at what you learn.

"There's really nothing you can do," Harvey said, "because the officers need to know there's a possible sex offender there." ^That is such horse crap!! There is no tactical advantage of knowing where someone lives! I don't CARE who it is. A citizen that is not an INMATE reserves the right to privacy in their residence. The registry was created out of fear and emotion rather than LOGIC & REASON. All stemming from a mother who, 31 years ago, decided shopping for lamps was far more important than keeping tabs on her son in a Sears department store, and another "victim" mom in Ohio that whined and moaned to lawmakers because someone down the street from her killed her daughter (while she was watching soaps no doubt). They all whined and moaned to lawmakers and billions of dollars in useless laws later, you STILL to this very day keep you kids inside and won't allow them the freedom of walking on the sidewalk. All the registry does manage to do accomplish is to circumvent the privacy, security and safety of those listed on it. Just because you committed an offense, doesn't mean that you're sexually dangerous. GET REAL! Before you embark on a journey of revenge, dig two graves. - Confucius An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind. - Ghandi
