MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - An accused burglar is behind bars after he was caught selling a stolen guitar on the online classifieds website craigslist.com.
On Tuesday, June 26 Memphis police were called to a burglary at The Pizza Shack on the 4500-block of Summer Avenue. The suspect had broken a front window and stole a Jay Turser guitar, a Dean Eagle bass guitar, an air conditioner window unit, soda, a box of meat, a baseball bat and a power strip. The estimated value of the items total $1235.00.
The day after the burglary, the business owner checked craigslist.com and found a sale listing for a guitar like the one stolen. Investigators went to the seller, 48-year-old Blaine Mattison, and determined the guitar was the same one stolen in the burglary. Mattison told investigators he had purchased it from a store on Summer Avenue and was trying to sell it for $150 online.
Blaine Mattison was arrested and charged with Burglary and Theft of Property. He is scheduled to appear in court June 29.
