MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - The man accused in a Cordova rape and robbery was taken into police custody early Wednesday morning, and investigators believe he could be responsible for several other sexual assaults.
41-year-old Anthony Alliano is charged with Aggravated Rape, Aggravated Burglary and Aggravated Robbery for a June 2010 incident. According to police records, a 27-year-old woman was asleep in her Cordova home when the suspect woke her up by covering her face. The man forced her into a closet and raped her, then stole her credit card before running away.
The suspect was seen on surveillance video using the stolen credit cards in several locations a few days later. Police interviewed possible witness at a restaurant where the suspect had used the credit card, but the suspect was not identified at Anthony Alliano until the surveillance photos were released to the public.
Alliano was booked at the Shelby County Jail just before 3 a.m. on May 2. He is being held without bond and is scheduled to appear in court May 3.
Police had stated earlier that the person responsible for this rape could also be tied to five other sexual assaults in the Cordova area dating back to 2003. So far no more additional charges have been filed against Alliano.
