MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - Fury abounds on Facebook for suspected baby killer Maurice Brown, Sr. He sits in jail on a million dollar bond, charged with aggravated child neglect and endangerment.
Police found his 3-year-old son, Maurice Jr. dead in a dumpster on Tuesday, July 3.
Brown has more than 2,000 Facebook friends, but after the death of Brown's son some of those friends have turned into enemies. Posts that read "You're better off dead," and "He couldn't be human," were all posted on Brown's Facebook wall.
People have strong opinions about whether Brown is guilty or innocent in the death of his son. Attorney Taylor Eskridge, who has represented Brown in a previous case, told abc24.com, "He and anyone else that's charged with a crime has a right to the presumption of innocence plain and simple."
"It's my wish for him and anyone else that we wait to pass judgment and give him an opportunity to a fair trial," she added.
But with pictures on the internet of brown throwing up gang signs, smoking what appears to be marijuana and a picture of actual marijuana, many have already found him guilty in the court of public opinion.
Still, "The citizens of Memphis are fair," Eskridge maintained. "If he gets to the point of having a trial I believe we'll be able to find fair and impartial jurors."
Brown has not been formally charged with the death of his son; an exact cause of death for Maurice Brown, Jr. has not yet been released.
