Cordova residents recently annexed into the City of Memphis received a welcome letter, but what it said was not welcoming at all to homeowners.

So tired of this underhanded government in this area. If Memphis really needs more money, have the guts to raise taxes or cut wasteful spending (funny how money was there for FedEx Forum but not education) and stop this game of having the police of Memphis and Shelby County start using the police for real police business (out crime rate isn't exactly low around here) and not to harrass tax payers with nusance tickets to only raise revenue. No one should be forced to live in Memphis espcially for tax reasons. If you want to annex us, provide a grandfather exemption for the people currently living there.

The democrat and liberal leadership of memphis has gone on for many years unchecked or balanced, and is heavily influenced by race. The re-distribution of wealth economic system is only a liberal wet dream, and cannot work in the real world. So the memphis empire is falling. Just as obummer and his reich will fall. Tao is just upset that everything democrats touch turns to poo poo. Thus, they are known as democraps.

@JeffersonTao: I live in the affected area and I am puzzled by your freeloader comment. We have received NO services from the Memphis City Government of any kind. Fire and Law Enforcement were given by the county which we pay for. We received no notification from anyone from the MCG. We pay for our utilities and garbage collection like anyone else. We are now told that we have to pay back taxes from Jan 1 of this year. I would like to know exactly what services were provided?

The city certainly isn't annexing because residents want it. They need money and they don't care where it comes from. Typical government parasite psychology.

Another mouthful of assumptions from rube boi. Do you follow me from room to room and article to article? I keep waiting for something intelligent to come from your posts but I have yet to see it. Your typing and spelling is not too bad so you must have some degree of education. Do you ever add anything to a discussion besides platitudes and hyperbole?

I'd bet two to one that JeffreyTao pays approximately "zero" in taxes.....and probably on food stamps, to boot......

I live in this neighborhood. I have received no "welcome letter" or any other notification that I was being annexed. Also, any time law enforcement has been needed in this neighborhood, it's been from the Shelby County Sheriff's department, not Memphis police, so I'm not sure why they're saying that we've been receiving Memphis services. Maybe so they can justify charging us for a full year of 2012 taxes??

Hickory Hills went through the same thing. City wanted that white money because memphis couldn't pay the bills with the "people" that live in memphis. Now they are going after the white money in cordova. The same will happen to Cordova as Hickory Hills. It will turn black, crime will be rampant, business' will close except for the cash loan places and the tire & rim shops. No money after all the white and affluent black move somewhere else to get away from the trash and deadbeats and drug dealers. Mark it down--another great neighborhood turned into the "hood".
