HELENA-WEST HELENA, AR (abc24.com) - A Mid-South teacher is accused of inappropriately touching an underage boy. 33-year-old Brenda Davis of Helena-West Helena, Arkansas, is charged with sexual assault.
According to the Helena-West Helena Police Department, Brenda Davis gave money and food to a 15-year-old boy, all in an attempt to have sex with him.
"We take this thing very seriously," said Captain Roy Covington. "It's really alarming for our community."
Davis is accused of sexually assaulting the teen on at least two occasions. Police say Davis would come see the 15-year-old at his home while his mother was at work.
According to investigators, Davis, who worked as a substitute teacher at Miller Junior High and Central High schools in Helena-West Helena, planned to have sex with the teen at her sister's house. That plan fell through.
Although there was no actual sexual intercourse between Davis and the Teen, Covington said what she did is still against the law.
"To have an adult in an authoritative position to misuse a juvenile in such a sense, we're going to handle our business to the fullest extent that the law allows us to do so."
Police say neither assault happened on school property. A representative with the Helena-West Helena School District says Davis will no longer be used as a substitute.
On top of the sexual assault, Davis is also charged with theft of property. Police say while at the 15-year-old's home, she stole his mother's clothes.
Davis, accompanied by her attorney, turned herself in to police around 9:45 a.m. on Wednesday, December 5.
