ARLINGTON, TN (abc24.com) - Arlington Elementary School is committed to fight childhood obesity. In June, it became one of only three schools in Tennessee to receive a Silver National Recognition Award from the Alliance for a Healthier Generation.

Principal Gina Gore told abc24.com, "We're committed to staying healthy."

P.E. Teacher Chuck Halford said the kids exercise routinely. "We run every day, we walk every day, we are moving constantly."

Students at Arlington also have input with the cafeteria staff on what kinds of foods will be served. "We have a nutrition council where there's a student on there from every homeroom," said Gore. "They even have a taste test where they decide what kids might like in the cafeteria that's healthy."
