MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - Memphis Police are still searching for 18-year-old Demetreous Santiago, wanted for First Degree Murder in the death of a former MPD officer.
Santiago is accused of participating in a robbery murder plot with his brother, 24-year-old Michael Dean, and 22-year-old Ashley Carver. According to investigators, Carver lured 57-year-old Charles Jones to a South Memphis home with the promise of sex. Once Jones entered the home, Dean shot him in the head.
Jones was last seen by his wife the morning of Feb. 16 at their Bartlett home, and a description of his missing Lexus was provided to police. MPD pulled over the Lexus, driven by Santiago with Dean as the passenger, but both fled the scene and eluded police. The vehicle was later found burned in Madison County; Jones' body was also found burned a short distance away.
Michael Dean was apprehended on Feb. 17 when he appeared for mandatory drug testing at 201 Poplar for probation on a separate charge. Ashley Carver was arrested a short time later.
Dean and Carver were also linked to the murder of Valero oil refinery employee, 40-year-old Leonard Davidson. 21-year-old Lewis Gibson was also arrested in connection with Davidson's murder.
In addition to Jones and Davidson, Dean told investigators he fatally shot James Rucker and Melody Weddle on Dec. 8, 2011 during a robbery.
Santiago is also wanted in Madison County on charges related to the Jones murder case.
