Some of these responses are laughable. Real Christians in government?? Please! What kind of an idiot are you? With the exception of Rep. Pete Stark of California, every single one of our lovely Congress claim to be alter-worshiping devotees of one religion or another. THAT is what is wrong with our government. The crooks and idiots are running the show because a truthful, honest Atheist cannot get elected in most states. MadJackSprat are you suggesting that evolution is not backed by hard evidence? If so, specifically, which evidence are you refuting? In the United States, the term "Darwinism" is often used by creationists as a pejorative term in reference to beliefs such as atheistic naturalism, but in the United Kingdom the term has no negative connotations, being freely used as a short hand for the body of theory dealing with evolution, and in particular, evolution by natural selection. Much of the concept of Darwinism have no connection to the work of Charles Darwin. So save your right-wing, purposely scary nonsense about Darwinism. You're not dealing with fools here. Much like Charles Darwin's work, I suppose global warming is too far fetched for you to grasp also. However, the grandiose and evidence-free ramblings of primitive, flat-Earth humans from the dark ages seem factual to you. Amazing!

I am not particularly religious, but: Did anyone notice that as LESS decent people (REAL Christians) are involved in government, the worse things get?!?!

Well "Gimme that old-time humanism"! Atheism not a religion? We have our high priests (Dawkins, Harris & the late Chris Hitchens), our own support groups and regular gatherings to celebrate the good news of atheism, a set of ultimate committments, a "creation" myth of our own (Darwinism), and our own "evanglists" declaring the good news of Nothing. We even have our own "sacraments"--abortion and sodomy. Of course we are religious. What we demand is a place at the public table along with the Baptists, Catholics, Muslims and other theists--and its high time, too!

I'm sure a lot of people are really upset about this sort of news. Keep in mind that atheism isn't a religion. It's high time that the most intelligent people in this world have a say in how it is run.
