MEMPHIS,TN—A new twist in the murder investigation into former NBA star Lorenzen Wright. Wright’s former wife said three men with guns showed up at her home six weeks ago looking for the former Grizzly and U of M star.
Gail Mathes is the attorney that represented Sherra Wright in the couple's divorce. Mathes said this week Sherra Wright revealed the details about what happened and said she was terrified.
“They advised her they were not interested in hurting her or the children unless she contacted the authorities, or she didn’t cooperate,” said Mathes. “She could tell they were armed. They had sports coats on and you could see the guns in their belts.”
Sherra warned Lorenzen about the three men, but Mathes said he didn’t take it seriously.
Mathes said the incident wasn’t reported until now and “She (Sherra Wright) is somewhat terrified that by telling the Collierville Police that someone had come to her house, that she can be in trouble with the armed men.”
Court records show Wright had financial dealings with a man connected to Memphis drug kingpin Craig Petties. Wright had told agents he sold two luxury cars to a Petties associate, though the car registrations remained in Wright’s name and AllWright Automotive, which was a business he owned.
“It is kind of troublesome he had any kind of transactions with people like that,” said Mathes. She went on to say the Sherra Wright was not familiar with her ex-husband's business dealings even when they were married. “He would go do his business, and he didn’t want to be questioned.”
