MEMPHIS,TN—A new twist in the murder investigation into former NBA star Lorenzen Wright.  Wright’s former wife said three men with guns showed up at her home six weeks ago looking for the former Grizzly and U of M star.

Gail Mathes is the attorney that represented Sherra Wright in the couple's divorce. Mathes said this week Sherra Wright revealed the details about what happened and said she was terrified.

“They advised her they were not interested in hurting her or the children unless she contacted the authorities, or she didn’t cooperate,” said Mathes. “She could tell they were armed. They had sports coats on and you could see the guns in their belts.”

Sherra warned Lorenzen about the three men, but Mathes said he didn’t take it seriously.

Mathes said the incident wasn’t reported until now and  “She (Sherra Wright) is somewhat terrified that by telling the Collierville Police that someone had come to her house, that she can be in trouble with the armed men.”

Court records show Wright had financial dealings with a man connected to Memphis drug kingpin Craig Petties. Wright had told agents he sold two luxury cars to a Petties associate, though the car registrations remained in Wright’s name and AllWright Automotive, which was a business he owned.

“It is kind of troublesome he had any kind of transactions with people like that,” said Mathes.  She went on to say the Sherra Wright was not familiar with her ex-husband's business dealings even when they were married. “He would go do his business, and he didn’t want to be questioned.”

I honestly don't see this investigation going any further other the the ex-wife back yard, she has told so many conflicting stories that she did'nt even have time to plan this murder out. I guess she forgot we have the top homicide detectives in the nation. I believe Lorenzen Wright was in the van with his exwife and he could have possibly asked her to take him to his mother house, that's how he was ended up on that "short cut" to his mother house. She had this man set up and in the end it will be for the love of money. I hate it for those 6 kids that have lost a great father and a money hungry mother and her lawyer should be investigated as well, because think about it... the lawyer does'nt get paid if the ex-wife was'nt getting paid. She had possibly two males to help her and i'm sure the 911 call will reveal awhole lot more other than those shots and those curse words he knew that he could be found by the cellphone tower signal and even sooner if MPD dispatch had recieved the call.. Sad day.. WE love you RENZ.. ; ( It makes you wonder just how much more he was worth dead than alive??? Insurance Policy got her and that lawyer written all over it!! smh... since he did'nt have a violent past and had a heart known for giving the reason this investigation took so long is because they wanted to find dirt, and tried to link him to drug king pins, watever people sell their personal vehicles and homes all the time nobody questions where u get that money from?? is that drug money?? please our society is so messed up

I think this claim by the ex-wife is simply illogical, dishonest, and self-serving.

This is: BALOGNA... She thought it was going to be a easy insurance claim, but something got messy somewhere. How spontaneous have the time changed from last seeing him at @ 2 am to 12am? How common was it for his body to be found in the family's secret spot? PLEASE DON'T LET ME FORGET TO MENTION... How obvious was it when she gave her first appearance on the news she pretended to be crying, wiping DRY EYES? She couldn't accept the fact that he let the houses foreclose (GREAT BUSINESS DEAL RENZO) so she couldn't get any money. If you have never made a terrible decision you made one this time. And the fact he was in the process of taking custody of his children. Face the facts: Slim was very messy and need to get the max penalty. Who is Sherra to decide to take the life of another human being. This man wasn't just her ex-husband he was someone's father, son, brother, uncle, grandson, nephew, cousin, friend, etc. and the list continues. One individual touches the lives of many. We never realize how precious one is until he or she is deceased. My prayers go out to the Wright family and friends as well as to the community. I am truly in disbelief.

6 weeks ago + 3 men with guns + Looking for ex-husband + leaves a threat for my ex-husband and me and my kids + missing ex husband from my house + I have no clue how he disappeared + after he does I say nothing about 3 men and a gun OUT OF fear = 12 GUNSHOTS AND A MURDER OF EX HUSBAND. If I was afraid to tell authorities when 3 men with guns did nothing but make a threat, I AM DEFINITELY NOT TALKING AND GIVING ANY INFORMATION TO THE NEWS OR AUTHORITIES NOW THAT THE THREAT HAS BECOME A REALITY. WHO IS FOOLING WHO?

I have had a difficult time believing most of the statments made by Lorenzen Wright's former wife. Her actions seem irrational and I think that the fact that she is making statements through an attorney further contribute to my distrust. I don't know what Mr. Wright was involved in; but, I don't feel like the ex Mrs. Wright is altogether innocent in this matter.

Not buying it. Am I to believe that these guys came back, let Lorenzen keep his cell phone, and he didn't use it until they had him in the field with their guns pulled? Come on! Obviously, the flash of green blinded this attorney to the color of truth. And then to disparage a dead man's character by trying to connect him to a notorious drug lord. Madame, you are what I have to scrape off the bottom of my shoes after a walk through Overton Park.

All reader's take warning. Never hire this lawyer. We manage to see the holes in this nonsense yet she cannot and chose to pass this ridiculous information along. She is definitely lacking critical skills needed to successfully defend someone. Day one= FAIL.

The article says she did not take them coming to the door serious, and then the article says she is terrified. I do not know but something sounds a little weird. The article also said she said that the armed men would not hurt her or the children, unless she went to the authorities or she did not cooperate. What does that sound like to other readers? I pray not for the children’s sake
