MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - The Better Business Bureau of the Mid-South is cautioning consumers to do their research on seemingly "great deals" through group buying websites after numerous complaints about a local housekeeping service.
The warning comes after the BBB issued an F rating to
House Call of Memphis due to 14 complaints alleging customers were unable to get in touch with the company to schedule appointments, appointments were not kept, and work was not completed satisfactorily. According to the BBB, many of the customers who registered complaints had purchased coupons for
House Call of Memphis through group buying, or "daily deal" websites.
“Group buying sites provide consumers with even more choices in terms of products, services and bargains,” said Randy Hutchinson, BBB of the Mid-South president. “However, consumers shouldn’t be so swayed by the deal that they forget to do their due diligence on the company. It only takes a moment to check a company’s record with the BBB and it doesn’t cost a thing.”
The BBB urges consumers to follow a few steps before purchasing online deals: check the company's website, check the company's record with the BBB at
bbb.org, ask about the company's refund policy, read the fine print, and don't assume a company is reputable just because its products or services are featured on a group buying website.
