HORN LAKE, MS (abc24.com) - A tiny car is creating a big splash in northern Mississippi. MyCar, an all-electric vehicle, officially launched Friday afternoon in Horn Lake, Mississippi.
Hundreds packed the factory to see a special guest, former President Bill Clinton, who was there to celebrate the opening. The manufacturing company says the timing, just two days after the 4th of July, is no coincidence.
"I'd like to welcome you to America's newest product - the MyCar built right here in Horn Lake, Mississippi," announced GreenTech Automotive's Chairman, Terry McAuliffe.
They are tiny cars. They take hundreds of hands to build, all of them American.
"This was a company in China making cars," said McAuliffe, "We bought it and moved to America; these are all U.S. made jobs."
That includes about 450 new jobs in Horn Lake. Hundreds of employees' friends and family packed the sweltering warehouse for Friday's unveiling, most were excited to see former President Bill Clinton.
MyCars are mainly sold oversees, but local business is picking up steam.
Diane Barrentine with Domino's Pizza stated the franchise purchased customized MyCars to deliver to the University of Mississippi this fall.
GreenTech Automotive has also started construction on a $60 million plant in tunica. By the end of the year the company expects to double its employees.
