MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - Two early morning Black Friday shoppers were arrested at Wolfchase Galleria for passing off fake bills at several stores.

Memphis police were called to the mall around 5:45 a.m. on Friday, November 23. Mall security had two shoppers detained, 30-year-old Martha Griffin and 48-year-old Robert Chandler, for using counterfeit money at four different stores. Officers also confiscated an additional $1,600 in fake bills.

Investigators say the pair had been spending the counterfeit bills in several cities between Dallas, Texas and Memphis. While searching their hotel room, officers found computer equipment they used to make the fake bills.

Martha Griffin was charged with Forgery, Theft of Property and Possession of Methamphetamine. Robert Chandler was charged with Forgery. Both are being held at the Shelby County Jail on $100,000 bond.
