MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - Home invasions, robberies, and even murder, all occurring in broad daylight. Adding insult to injury, many of the suspects in these crimes are barely old enough to drive. So, what is going on in the Mid-South?

"Fear, fear works, and when you begin to be more brazen, people begin to be more afraid," said Pastor DeAndre Brown of LifeLine to Success.

Brown works with troubled teens to try and turn around their lives. He says he sees firsthand a trend toward more bold and brazen criminals.

"They don't understand that their future now has pretty much been ruined because of the decision they made probably in the heat of the moment."

A recent study found more than half of the violent crimes in Memphis are committed by someone under 24.

"There has been an increase in what we call petty crimes, crimes of the moment," Brown said.

Those crimes include a recent purse-snatching in Horn Lake, Mississippi, where a man jumped out of his car, opened the passenger door of a Jeep, and stole a woman's purse all while she was pumping gas. In addition, a man was recently robbed as he walked out of a popular East Memphis grocery store.

This week, a teen was also murdered outside a community center.

All three crimes remain unsolved.

"You don't know who to trust, you got to protect yourself. You have to protect your family by any means," said Mika Tate, a Memphis resident.

I don't CARE how old it is, or what it looks like, or the gender. If the parents want it to live, they should actually raise it, with BASIC values/morals. I am the provider for my family; I will not hesitate to protect that status, OR them.

could not agree more - they should be hunted and killed like tha animals they are. our judicial system is a joke - the judges are a joke , criminals fear nothing does anyone honestly expect ANYTHING to get better ?? i mean people in the inner city continue to breed like rats, children continually brought into this world with absolutely NO ONE to teach right from wrong ( vast majority live off the government soley.... by they way thanks you democrats for creating such a nanny state ). so until we stop the flow of all of the parentless children being throw into a system where nobody cares for them do we honestly ever expect a change ???

catch the ones doing it , then take them back to where the crim happend and then exacute them right there where it happen then call the family to come and pick up the body, that would stop alot of this, killings, breakins, rapes, and a whole lot of other crimes. Becouse they know nothing will happen to them, but go to prison, where we the people ( THE TAX PAYERS ) are paying for there food, clothes, utilities, cable, and no telling what else. It is time to put a stop to it once and for all
