MARSHALL CO., MS (abc24.com) - A suspect in several burglaries across two north Mississippi counties evaded arrest Monday afternoon and remains at large.
According to Major Kelly McMillen with the Marshall County Sheriff's Department, "We received information about a suspect in some of our burglaries and possibly involved in some of our church burglaries in Marshall County as well as Tate County."
Deputies spotted the suspect, 41-year-old Jerome Totten, driving east on Mt. Sinai Road on April 9. Several patrol units tried to intercept the suspect but he continued driving, nearly hitting one squad car head on.
Totten lost control of the vehicle a short distance away and fled on foot near wheat fields and wooded areas. McMillen said helicopters and K-9 officers with DeSoto County were assisting with the search.
"He could be laying right out there and we wouldn't be able to see him," McMillen said, "so that's why we've got several K-9 units here."
Dozens of officers combed the area with hopes they can contain Totten and capture him before dark.
Anyone with information on Jerome Totten is urged to call CrimeStoppers of Northeast Mississippi at 1-800-773-TIPS (8477).
