MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - Memphis Police say a man eating chicken at a bus stop was nearly stabbed in a fight over his dinner.

The incident occurred just before 5:00pm on January 29, 2012. The victim told officers he was sitting at a bus stop at Poplar Avenue and Danny Thomas when the suspect, 54-year-old Michael Barner, walked up and began to argue with him over the chicken he was eating. A fight ensued, and Barner pulled out a large knife and tried to cut the victim. The victim was able to take the knife away and knocked out some of Barner's teeth in the struggle.

An employee at the Memphis Union Mission witnessed the attack and made a statement to investigators.

Michael Barner was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault. He is being held at the Shelby County Jail on $2,000 bond.
