MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - The suspect in an east Memphis auto burglary was quickly apprehended after the victim pinpointed the location of his stolen iPhone for police.

Officers were called to the Kroger parking lot at S. Perkins Road and Poplar Avenue around 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 17. The victim told police that several items had been taken from his vehicle, including an Apple iPhone. The victim was able to track the GPS coordinates of his phone and went to the location with police, where there was a 2005 Dodge Stratus he recognized from seeing in the parking lot earlier.

Police approached the driver, 52-year-old Edmond Cleveland, who consented to a search of his car. Officers found the stolen iPhone, a .22 caliber rifle, a Bluetooth speaker, a shaving kit, a Gerber knife and several other items that Cleveland admitted were stolen.

Edmond Cleveland was arrested and charged with Auto Burglary and Theft of Property over $1,000. He is scheduled to appear in court on June 19.

Hah hah. This shows the wisdom of setting your GPS to always on instead of 911 only when leaving the house.
