MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - A caretaker at a Memphis nursing home was arrested for stealing an elderly resident's debit card and spending hundreds of dollars.

Investigators state that between June 7 and June 11, 2012, 32-year-old Jamilla Horne and a second suspect went to several businesses using a card stolen from a resident at Poplar Point nursing home, where Horne was employed as a caretaker. Horne and the male suspect purchased nearly $1,000.

The owner of a Whitehaven jewelry store, where a purchase was made with the stolen card, provided surveillance video of the transaction for police. A manager at Poplar Point positively identified Jamilla Horne as the person making the purchase in the video, signing the victim's name on the sales slip.

Jamilla Horner was arrested July 3 and charged with Elderly Abuse, two counts of Forgery and two counts of Fraudulent Credit Card Use over $500. She is being held at the Shelby County Jail on $85,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court July 5.

It would be amusing to witness a few canings, provided the evidence against the individual was solid. Could you imagine one of these smart-mouthed, bad azz, saggy drawer little hoodlums getting caned! I can hear it now: "I'm 'onna git my gat and come back. I got somethin fo yo mr cane man"!

Those who would steal from those that can not defend themselves are the lowest of the low. But they do this because they know there are no real consequences. Add "caning" to the list of punishments and watch the number of crimes like this disappear.
