Former Memphis Mayor Dr. Willie Herenton was not happy after having his applications to open nine new charter schools denied by the Unified School Board.

He told abc24.com "I think the Unified School Board and the two Superintendents are in for a rude awakening. We need charter schools."

Herenton may think we need charter schools but Jeff Warren with the school board disagrees. "It seems like a lot of these stumbling blocks, hurdles, for whatever reasons they're being placed in front of us."

Herenton added that "some people believe it's directed at me. I don't want to entertain that at this particular time."

He says he will appeal the board's decision with the State. 17 charter school applications were denied.

King Willie is only interested in more $$$$$$$ for himself not the kids. It is still all about him always wanting to be the center of attention. Remember his record with teachers when he was superintendant then as mayor. Who would want their kids around him with his attitudes & morals.
