A Shelby County Commissioner says you folks have the right to decide whether county employees should be forced to live in Shelby County. It's the law, but Commissioner Terry Roland says it's not a very good law, and thinks it should be changed.

I say let them stay where ever they want to, but they should be required to pay a non-residency employment tax of 8 to 15 percent of their salary.

How would you like to be told you have to leave your house, your home b/c where you work decides they want you to live in a different neighborhood due to something that was no fault of your own. THIS IS WRONG ON SO MANY LEVELS. THIS DOESNT AFFECT ME AT ALL, BUT I THINK IT IS JUST AN OUTRAGE. WHATS NEXT? PRIVATE COMPANIES TELLING YOU U HAVE TO LIVE DOWN THE STREET FROM WORK. i AM SICK OF POLITICIANS SAYING PEOPLE HAVE TO LIVE SOMEWHERE SO THEY CAN GET THEIR TAX MONEY. THESE PEOPLE SHOULD BE ASHAMED. IT IS ABSOLUTE IGNORANCE AND A COMPLETE LACK OF COMPASSION FOR A JOB THAT IS ALREADY UNDER APPRECIATED. I THINK ANY RESIDENCY POLICY IS WRONG BUT TO MAKE SOMEONE 15 OR 20 YEARS INTO A CAREER SUDDENTLY HAVE TO MOVE FOR NO GOOD REASON IS JUST PLAIN WRONG. A VOTE BY THE PEOPLE WILL PROBABLY MAKE THE RESIDENCY A RULE, BUT THAT IS B/C PEOPLE LIKE TELLING OTHERS WHERE TO LIVE BUT DONT LIKE BEING TOLD WHERE THEY HAVE TO. THIS IS A FREE COUNTRY PEOPLE DONT SUPPORT LAWS THAT RESTRICT BASIC FREEDOMS. VOTE NO TO A RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT FOR TEACHERS IN SHELBY COUNTY. FORCING SOMEONE TO SELL THEIR HOME TO KEEP THEIR JOB IS UNAMERICAN. IF ANYTHING MAKE IT ONLY AFFECT NEW HIRES AND GRANDFATHER ALL OTHERS IN. PERSONALLY I DONT EVEN AGREE WITH THAT. LET FREEDOM RING AND VOTE OUT THESE GREEDY POLITICIANS THAT ONLY CARE ABOUT MONEY AND NOT PEOPLE AND FAMILIES.
