Memphis, TN -- Mid-South job seekers have their eye on Washington as Congress continues to weigh extending jobless benefits and the payroll tax cut.

"Everyone needs a chance, I'm telling you. I ain't the only one. There's a lot of them out there, I'm telling you," said Larry Bobo, as he sat in a local unemployment office.

"It is pretty hard, jobs are hard to come by right now, I'm telling you."

The proposed bill would continue a 2 percent cut in the Social Security tax that was set to expire at the end of the month. For the average worker, it preserves about $40 per bimonthly paycheck.

"We work hard for the money, we like to see it, as much as we can," said Jarrod Phillips, chef at Ferraro's Pizzeria in the Pinch District.

The news is also good for doctors. The proposed agreement would eliminate a 27 percent cut in medicare payments that were set to go into effect on March 1st.

The U.S. House and Senate reached an agreement on the bill late Wednesday night, and a vote is excited by both later this week.
