MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - A 55-year-old man is behind bars after he was caught stealing thousands of dollars worth of copper from the Raleigh Springs Mall.

Court documents state Dung Tran was seen on the mall's video surveillance entering the building through a trash chute. Officers were called the abandoned Goldsmith's retail space and found several HVAC units stacked by a stairwell. Police followed the sound of dragging metal and rust tracks on the ground to find Tran, who was in possession of pry bars, bolt cutters and other tools.

Management at the mall determined Tran attempted to take over $10,000 worth of copper and caused over $10,000 worth of damage to the building.

Dung Tran is charged with Burglary of a Building, Possession of Burglary Tools, Theft of Property over $10,000 and Vandalism over $10,000. He remains in jail on $30,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on April 26.

At least somebody is getting use out of the waste that is Raleigh Springs Mall. Too bad it's a thief. No decent retailer would want to set up shop in that area. Too much theft and crime. A thief named Dung? How appropriate!

I think he was actually living in a hooch on the property and going at it at night. Gotta give him credit for having a work ethic.
