MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - Brave and bold. That's what residents of a Cordova neighborhood are calling a 10-year old girl who fought off an attempted kidnapper.

It happened on Chatman Way off Whitten Road in Cordova.

The 10-year-old girl was playing outside in her Cordova neighborhood just steps from her home when all of a sudden a masked man grabbed her.

Diamond Trazes and her five-month-old son live a couple of houses down from where the attempted kidnapping took place.

"I'm speechless, I'm very speechless," Trazes said, "I'm speechless y'all, I'm so emotional right now."

She says she often sees the little girl and her nine year old sister outside playing. Trazes says lately she's been seeing something else too.

"I have been seeing a white van."

The Shelby County Sheriff's Office says a black man wearing a mask jumped out the passenger seat of a white van and tried to kidnap the girl in front of a house on Chatman Way.

The man let her go after her screams got the attention of her mother, who ran outside after hearing her daughter's plea for help.

Chip Washington with the Shelby County Sheriff's Office says, "You don't see cases like this in Shelby County. I've been here two years and we have not had one of these cases."

Sheriff's deputies are looking for two black men, one of which is 5' 8", who was wearing blue overalls and black work boots. They were seen driving a white van with tinted windows.

If you have any information, call the Shelby County Sheriff's Office at (901) 379-7625.

cannot wait for the day when stories like this end with " and were gunned down by decent citizens " . these men and everyone like them are nothing more than real life monsters/animals that need to be killed.
