MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - Elvis Presley may live eternal, but the Memphis street named after him has been forgotten.

If one Memphis city councilman has his way, Elvis Presley Boulevard will get a multi-million dollar shot in the arm.

Graceland is the top tourist destination in Memphis and one of the most popular in the world. Councilman Harold Collins said he is tired of visitors getting the wrong idea about the Bluff City because the area is so rundown.

Collins said Graceland currently draws in 600,000 visitors a year with an economic impact of $170 million.

i think it is a great idea - afterall Graceland is memphis' # 1 draw, everything else are the beneficiaries.

I agree with "mytown," why would you spend so much time on the topic of mid-town when you have no idea what the money being spent on it will produce in terms of revenue generated for the area; but you already know what kind of revenue "is" generated from the area around Graceland. I say clean it up and then hold people accountable for their actions in the area. The Mayor and Police Director are always talking about cleaning up our town, making it better, so why not start here. People make "Ghetto's," they don't develop without help from the people. Graceland first, then let's work on mid-town.

It's hard to clean up any area that is right smack in the middle of the ghetto. The people of the area the problem. Fix it up and then watch how quickly it's torn down again.

I am a fan of Elvis, although I was not always. After visiting Graceland and seeing the plethora of music that the man was involved with, and all the talent that he had, it changed my mind. We really do need to polish up this valuable jewel. Music was Elvis' middle name!

I am not an Elvis fan, but that area is an eye sore. I am afraid to shop or traveling in that area, beacause of the way it look. It is sad to see it and it bring so much to Memphis. If was a fan I would not visit.

I don't have a dog in this hunt. But I can't figure out why money would be spent on a few old midtown business sites owned by old political based campaign contributors as opposed to cleaning up the Graceland area. One of the biggest cash draws of this area. If you guys want to buy my vote let me know. Might as well go with the flow
