SOUTHAVEN, MS (abc24.com) - A DeSoto County Sheriff's Deputy was airlifted to The MED after a motorcycle accident Wednesday afternoon.
The accident occurred just before 1 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20 near the intersection of I-55 and Church Road in Southaven. Investigators say the deputy was traveling eastbound on Church Road with a group of other police motorcycles when he was hit by a vehicle making a left turn onto Airways Blvd.
According to the DeSoto Co. Sheriff's Dept., Deputy Mike Cowan suffered a broken right arm and leg, and is awaiting an MRI. He is currently listed in non-critical condition.
Deputy Cowan had been taking part in a motorcycle training event at the Southaven Town Center Mall with several other law enforcement agencies to raise money for the Make A Wish Foundation. He was likely making a gas run with other participants when the accident happened.
The incident remains under investigation by the Southaven Police Department.
