DESOTO COUNTY, MS (abc24.com) - They move to the country to get away from it all, but some living in DeSoto County say they left too much behind. Hundreds can't get high speed internet.

After hearing complaints for years, the county is finally working on a solution. Supervisors are now considering making the entire county wireless.

"We certainly won't solve it overnight. There's a lot of areas out in the rural parts of the county that do not have high speed internet. We're really trying to address that," says Mark Gardner.

Gardner is on a newly formed committee to bring internet to all of Desoto County.

"We've been contacted by so many people. There's an attorney friend of mine who lives on Star Landing Road. Her husband is a college professor. That's two professions that really need high speed internet."

Hundreds aren't getting it. It's too late to install necessary cables, so the county's working on a different answer, possibly going wireless.

"Maybe there is a wireless solution, maybe through the towers," Gardner says. "We're trying to see where the pockets are and through our existing providers how we can address that. It's not necessarily that the county wants to get into the internet business, but there may be a county solution to it."

It's still early in the process. The committee has its second meeting at the beginning of May.
