DeSoto County has extended its burn ban to August 9th as drought conditions persist across the Mid-South.
The burn ban was originally set to expire Thursday, July 27, but was extended at the request of the DeSoto County Fire Marshal's office.
The county's Emergency Services Director, Chief Bobby Storey, noted that charcoal and gas grills could be used for cooking purposes only following the manufacturer's safety procedures.
According to Mississippi state law, anyone caught violating a burn ban can be charged with a misdemeanor and ordered to pay a $100-$500 fine.
