HERNANDO, TN (abc24.com) - Voters in DeSoto County may run into a bit of a problem when they go to cast their ballot Tuesday, November 8, 2011.
If they registered to vote through the Mississippi Department of Public Safety, there's a chance their vote may not be counted.
"It's very frustrating,” Marla Tredway told abc24.com.
Why wouldn't it be? Tredway, the deputy clerk of the DeSoto County Election Commission, told abc24.com the staff at election commission has the task of figuring out who is actually registered to vote.
“If they're not there we can't do anything about that,” said Tredway.
The issues revolve around the Mississippi Department of Public Safety. Folks who got their drivers license had the option of registering to vote at the same time. That info should have been electronically transferred to the election commission. Problem is hundreds were not.
“We did not receive their information. They're not on our voter registration,” Tredway told abc24.com.
Voters not on file will be allowed to cast a provisional ballot. The DeSoto County Election Commission will then have to certify those votes.
