MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - March 5 started week five in a major federal trial involving two accused hit men.

Prosecutors say Martin and Clinton Lewis were hired killers for Craig Petties. The cousins are accused of murder, kidnapping, racketeering and money laundering.

Monday's focus was on defendant Clinton Lewis and his role in the murder of Marcus Turner.

Since Thursday, convicted drug dealer Carlos Whitelow has been on the stand. He's a former Petties gang member who says he was threatened by Clinton Lewis after the murder of Marcus Turner.

Turner was killed by the organization in 2006. His badly beaten body was found in Mississippi with a deadly gun shot wound to the back of his head.

Whitelow told jurors Craig Petties ordered Clinton Lewis to murder Turner. He testified the last time he saw Turner alive, he was very bloody and in Lewis's hands.

Whitelow called Lewis "a well trusted lieutenant" to Craig Petties and said the killer would do whatever Petties wanted.

After a large amount of cocaine was stolen from Petties, the organization kidnapped and held Turner hostage for information about the theft; gang members say Lewis killed him a few days later.

The government hopes to rest its case by the end of the week.
