DESOTO COUNTY, MS (abc24.com) - There was not one, not two, but more than a dozen business break-ins this past weekend in DeSoto County. The crooks' crime spree spanned from Southaven to Horn Lake.

"I walked in and the alarm system didn't come on, and I knew something was kind of weird. Then I went to the back and there was a hole and the safe was open," says Tiffanie Jamison.

Jamison tells the same story as employees at thirteen stores from Horn Lake to Southaven.

Almost all are cash advance or pay day loan businesses. All were broken into sometime over the weekend.

Several of the businesses were hit the exact same way. The crooks broke into one store, then after they were inside they cut a hole in the wall to gain access to the business next door

"They would go in through the sheet rock," says Lt. Scott Evans with the Horn Lake Police Department.

In each case, there were no surveillance cameras and no alarms.

"Alarm wires had been cut. Phone lines had been cut. We don't have much to go on as far as that goes," says Evans.

Police say none of the businesses had much money.

"They took a little cash and they rifled through everything, I guess looking for more cash," says Jamison.

But at most, the crooks got a couple hundred bucks, making the crimes a big mess for a little reward.

"If anybody saw anything suspicious over the weekend, like somebody driving in back of the businesses or anything like that - maybe a gas station attendant that saw some people come in that looked like they'd been working in sheet rock, we'd like to get a call," says Lt. Mark Little with Southaven Police Department.

Cops don't know how many suspects they're looking for.
