MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - A New Year's Day drunk driver had to be woken up from a deep sleep by Memphis Police after he passed out at the scene of an accident.
Officers were called to the 7500-block of Lowrance in southeast Shelby County around 7:00am where a Honda had rear-ended an unattended Chevy Blazer. When police approached the Honda, the driver, 44-year-old Samuel Norris, was asleep in the driver's seat. Officers knocked on the window, and Norris awoke not knowing where he was and unable to unlock the car door.
Police smelled alcohol on Norris, and an affidavit states that he admitted to being at a club earlier and having four rum drinks. As Norris was assisted to a paramedic's vehicle, an officer noticed he had urinated in his pants.
No other injuries were reported.
Samuel Norris was arrested and charged with DUI, striking an unattended vehicle, reckless driving, and refusal to submit to a breathalyzer test. He was booked at the Shelby County Jail on $5,000 and is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 3rd.
