DYERSBURG, TN (abc24.com) - For eight months, Dyer County Sheriff's deputies have hunted for a killer. They promise not to give up until someone is behind bars for the murder of Karen Swift.
Swift's picturesque home and neighborhood are quiet. There's no reminder of the chaos eight months ago.
Dyersburg resident Dalton Craig says, "There were a whole lot of people when she first disappeared, people searching for her. That went for about two weeks, then it slacked off. Then just local people were looking for her."
Craig manages the grocery store less than a mile from Swift's home. Craig used to see Swift and her kids every morning.
The disappearance of the mother of four disturbed everyone in the small town. Dorothy Barham says, "It was a lot scarier then than it is now. It was a relief when they found her body. It's just been a hushed up thing."
Craig says, "Nobody knew what happened and they still don't know what happened. We're getting no information."
Dyer County Sheriff, Jeff Box, says the investigation is active, they're gathering new evidence and he's confident it will lead to an arrest.
Swift disappeared in October 2011. Her body was found near a Dyer County cemetery in December. Since then law enforcement has remained tight lipped about the investigation. Even the Medical Examiner has sealed Swift's autopsy results, keeping the public in the dark.
Craig says, "People would like to know because they'd like to know if there's a murderer left loose around here."
Jim Green says, "I know everybody's ready to get this out of the way. It's a shame."
