DYERSBURG, TN (abc24.com) - Students at Dyersburg Primary School got an Oval Office ovation.

Mrs. Penland's kindergarten class has the motto "I Can," which got the attention of President Barack Obama.

The kids in Mrs. Penland's class wrote President Obama personal letters with very personal messages. They were inspired by a teacher who was teaching her kids the importance and the power of words.

"We were talking about describing words, question words and we thought who better than to write than the President," she said.

"We think you're awesome," read one student.

Apparently the president thinks Mrs. Penland's kids are awesome as well because President Obama wrote back.

Mrs. Penland says the presidential experience that came from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue is something that will benefit her students the rest of their lives.

"I think they felt the President cared and that their voices are heard and encouraged them to do what they want in life."
