MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP, abc24.com) - Authorities have charged a man after his dead dog was found frozen to the ground in Memphis after icy weather moved through.
28-year-old Zangerio Dogan was arrested on January 15 and charged with aggravated animal cruelty.
The dog was found at the home of Dogan's sister, who said she thought Dogan picked up the animal weeks ago. Dogan told police he hadn't seen or fed the dog in weeks and thought his sister was caring for it.
A police affidavit said the pit bull dog appeared extremely malnourished. The dog was on a 2' chain attached to a basketball goal in the backyard, and the only shelter was a metal kennel with no top.
Dogan was booked at the Shelby County Jail on a $1,500 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court January 17.
