MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - A jury found former University of Memphis football star Xavier Crawford guilty of brutally raping and robbing an elderly woman in 2009.
The 67-year-old woman was attacked in the driveway of her Raleigh home on February 17, 2009. The victim was hospitalized for 18 days for extensive facial injuries.
It took the jury approximately an hour and a half to return a guilty verdict on both charges of aggravated rape and aggravated robbery.
Crawford still has to stand trial on charges he raped and kidnapped a female relative. Prosecutors say it happened on the same day he raped and robbed the Raleigh woman. Investigators say Crawford is also accused of raping a school teacher in 2005 and he's suspected of raping women in Florida and Alabama.
Crawford, known to many as 'The X-Man,' was one of the most sought after football players in the country. Now he could spend the rest of his life behind bars.
Sentencing for Xavier Crawford is scheduled for June 15.
