MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP, abc24.com) - Police and firefighters in Memphis evacuated neighbors after the Cordova home of a person who makes ammunition caught fire.

Ammunition was exploding after the home caught fire before dawn Friday. There were no reports of injuries, either from the blaze or the exploding ammunition.

Michelle Muggridge, who said she was awakened around 4 a.m. by popping sounds and her dogs barking, called the situation "freaky scary." Muggridge said a person who lives at the house makes ammunition commercially.

Police wouldn't let nearby neighbors go back home until the ammunition was removed.

Loading for yourself is one thing but loading for commercial purposes in a residential area is another.

@ newswatcher: There is absolutely nothing illegal about loading your own ammunition. Target shooter, hunters, competitive shooters, reloading enthusiasts, etc. do it every day. I'm sure you have plenty of items in your house, garage, or shed that are just as volatile & explosive. Why is the ammo any more scary than your paint thinner, gasoline, or propane tank?
