SOUTHAVEN, MS (abc24.com) - Southaven Mayor Greg Davis still hasn't paid his tab to the state, and a criminal investigation into his spending is moving forward.

An audit by the state comptroller in November 2011 revealed $170,000 in undocumented expenses Davis spent with taxpayer money. He submitted approximately $53,000 in receipts, but still had not paid back a dime by the ordered deadline of December 2nd.

As of the end of the business day on December 7th, Lisa Shoemaker with the Office of the State Auditor confirmed that they had not received any payment from Mayor Davis, despite assurances that a check was in the mail.

Shoemaker stated, "I can now confirm State Auditor Stacey Pickering has met with the Northern District United States Attorney, FBI and the local district attorney, and the criminal investigation is moving forward."

Davis told abc24.com that he will now take a check to the State Auditor himself, but would not comment further citing the fact this is now a criminal investigation.

Southaven Aldermen, who expressed surprise at this recent development, are awaiting a packet from the State Auditor's Office. They were asked to review receipts and disclose if they attended or were part of any of the invoices in question.
