Memphis, TN (abc24.com) - The wife of a fallen Memphis police officer, killed in the line of duty, is taking sides as the city and its police and fire unions continue to battle it out over pay cuts and a pension overhaul.
Betsy Warren said after medical insurance and union dues her husband, Timothy Warren, sometimes brought home $500 a paycheck. Warren was shot and killed while responding to a call at the DoubleTree Hotel the weekend of July 4, 2011.
"He had exactly $500 dollars to make it two weeks, and yet you guys want to take 4.6-percent out of that," Betsy Warren told the city council.
Appearing with her son and daughter, Warren said the last few months have been hard.
"I am doing my best right now to not break down crying, I have been strong up until now. I don't want to lose it right this minute," said Warren.
She said her family is going to counseling, as they deal with their grief.
