MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - The hunt is on for a taxi cab killer. The Yellow Cab driver was killed late Tuesday night during a robbery near downtown Memphis.

Memphis Police say Kevin Grills, 50, was shot in his cab around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday night near the intersection of St. Paul and Lauderdale close to Downtown Memphis.

"Total shock, all of us are shocked. Can't believe it," said Kathy Poppenheimer, Grills' sister.

Poppenheimer says Grills usually didn't respond to that part of town, and was making his last call of a long shift.

"I heard about it on the news, someone in a cab had been shot, a cab driver, and I thought to myself, I hope that is not my brother," Poppenheimer said.

"It is senseless," she added.

John Grills, Kevin's older brother, says he was working as a cab driver to make ends meet.

"He was trying to do the best that he could, finding whatever work that he could, and that right now, was driving a cab," Grills said. "He was a good person, he didn't get into trouble, he worked hard."
