MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - Snow days are happening early this year. Fayette, Hardin, and Lauderdale counties all called off school today due to slick roads.

Most bus routes in Fayette County were ice-free, but many back roads and curvy bus routes looked slick. Fayette County is the third largest county in Tennessee with over 700 square miles. Many bus routes are in rural areas of the county and if one route looks dangerous, all county students will have a snow day.

Cedrick Gray, Fayette County Superintendent, says, “The majority of students ride the bus. School is cancelled if the bus passage does not look safe and we think it could jeopardize the safety of our students.”

Fayette County schools are scheduled to be back in session tomorrow.

There are 11 school days built into the school year. Fayette County used only 7 snow days last year.
