MEMPHIS, TN - It's the busiest shipping day in FedEx history. The processing plant here in Memphis will handle 200 packages a second today. That amounts to a total of 19 million packages.

Not bad considering that on its busiest day seven years ago it moved a little more than half that amount. The company credits the online shopping boom for the steady rise in shipments over the years. And with Christmas just a couple of weeks away, shipping deadlines are fast approaching.

“You don't want to procrastinate too long. You've got another week if you want to ship by FedEx ground home delivery next Monday. You've got up until the 22nd for the true procrastinators you can wait until Saturday the 22nd and get it there by Express standard overnight or priority overnight,” FedEx spokeswoman Bonnie Kourvelas said.

If you're sending something overseas you had better get a move on it. In order for your package to arrive by Christmas you have to ship it this Thursday.

FedEx expects it will move more than 280 million packages between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
