LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Seven Arkansas counties have qualified for federal disaster aid to help with cleanup from the Christmas Day winter storm that dumped 10 inches of snow on the central part of the state.

The declaration approved Tuesday includes Garland, Grant, Hot Spring, Lonoke, Perry, Pulaski, and Saline counties.

The scope of the disaster wasn't great enough for individuals to qualify for aid but the declaration will help pay for emergency work performed by counties and cities. Communities can also get help with fixing or replacing damaged facilities.

Gov. Mike Beebe on Tuesday asked President Barack Obama to make the disaster declaration.
