MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP, abc24.com) - Federal prosecutors have rested their case against two men charged with being hit men for the Craig Petties organization without calling the drug kingpin as a witness.

Prosecutors called their last witness Thursday in the month-long trial. Clinton Lewis and cousin Martin Lewis have pleaded not guilty to committing murders for the Petties gang, which imported cocaine from Mexico for sale in Tennessee, Mississippi, Georgia and North Carolina.

Petties has pleaded guilty to racketeering, money laundering and hiring hit men to kill four people who were threats to the organization. Petties was on the defense's list of anticipated government witnesses but prosecutors didn't call him to the stand.

Several men who have pleaded guilty or have been convicted of being members of the Petties gang have testified in the trial.
