MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP, abc24.com) - A felon says he helped drug enforcement agents obtain a .45 caliber handgun used in a gang murder by arranging a secret handoff at a Memphis park.
TeMarcus Cartwright testified Wednesday in the trial of cousins Clinton Lewis and Martin Lewis, charged with being contract killers for the drug gang led by Craig Petties.
Cartwright said he called an acquaintance to meet him and Drug Enforcement Agents with the gun, which authorities say was used to kill Marcus Turner in September 2006.
Cartwright said the acquaintance met them in a green truck and left the gun in a bag on the ground. The agents then picked up the bag.
The Lewises face life in prison if convicted. Petties has already pleaded guilty to racketeering and ordering four murders.
The jury will take Thursday and Friday off; on Monday the judge meets with lawyers to discuss jury instructions, and closing arguments begin Tuesday morning.
