MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - Investigators say a fight over a cigarette sent one man to the hospital with a gunshot wound overnight near downtown Memphis.

Police were called to the 900-block of Peabody Avenue just west of I-240 shortly after midnight on Friday, November 2. When they arrived, they found a 37-year-old man with a gunshot wound in front of the apartments. Witnesses told officers the victim had gotten in an argument with someone he knew over a cigarette and a fight ensued. The suspect left the scene and returned, shooting the victim.

Investigators say witnesses heard shots fired but did not see the shooting take place; the suspect was last seen driving a gold Cadillac. The victim was transported to The MED, but neither his condition nor his identity have been released by police.
