MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - Firefighters from Shelby County and Memphis battled a fire at the former home of the late Isaac Hayes.
Shelby County fire crews were called to 9280 Riveredge Drive in Cordova around 6:45 p.m. Wednesday. The Memphis Fire Department was called to assist.
The homeowners, Kenneth and Doris Peters, and their grandchild were taken to the hospital and treated for smoke inhalation.
The home is where the legendary musician Isaac Hayes died on his treadmill in August 2008. Isaac Hayes bought the house in 2002 for $1.4 million. The home was foreclosed on in February 2009 after his estate was in default on a $1.1 million loan.
According to the Shelby Co. Assessors website, the house was built in 1996 and is over 7200 sq. ft. It has five bedrooms, five bathrooms and sits on 2.88 acres in the Bluffs of Riveredge subdivision.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
