MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - It was a somber reminder of child abuse Friday as the Memphis Child Advocacy Center raised its memorial flag in honor of a 2-month-old.

Marquise Kenny died at Le Bonheur Children's Hospital in May from malnutrition.

Police say his mother, Cornellya Kenny, was supposed to take the baby in for corrective surgery for his cleft palate shortly after he was born, but she never did.

"It is so not right - with all that we have to keep children healthy, to help parents understand how to parent - it's so not right for a child only two months old to not survive," said Nancy Williams, Director of the Memphis Child Advocacy Center.

The flag was lifted at 10:30 a.m. and will fly for one week. Cornellya Kenny remains in the Shelby County Jail, charged with First Degree Murder.
