MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - From flooded roadways to widespread car accidents, the steady torrential rain caused several problems in Memphis and around the Mid-South on December 5, 2011.

The Shelby County Sheriff's Office responded to many reports of flash flooding, including over a foot of water at Old Brunswick and Stewart. Clogged storm drains also caused problems in many areas.

According to Shelby County Spokesperson Chip Washington, over 40 accidents had been reported between midnight and noon. None of the incidents involved fatalities or critical injuries.

Around 9:30am, emergency crews were dispatched to assist in Fayette County off Highway 196 in Hickory Wythe were a washed out road left over 60 residents stranded.
