MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP, abc24.com) - A former Memphis Police Department lieutenant has been sentenced to more than four years in federal prison in a bribery case.

A judge in Memphis sentenced Timothy Green on Thursday. Green had pleaded guilty last year to charges that he took money to tip off the owners of a nightclub about impending police vice raids.

During Green's sentencing hearing, federal prosecutor Brian Coleman said the information Green sold put fellow officers in harm's way, according to The Commercial Appeal.

Green was a 25-year veteran of the department when he and two patrolmen were caught taking bribes. He pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit bribery and extortion, and aiding and abetting. The other two have also pleaded guilty.

Investigators said the three took more than $12,000 in bribes.
